5 Useful Tips to Take Care of Your Diamond Jewellery

We all have heard the saying, “Diamonds are forever” which is very true. So, wouldn’t you want the shine and lustre of your diamond rings, bracelets, earrings etc. to also last forever? As Londe Jewellers has a wide range of diamond jewellery in Nagpur, we would like to share with you some useful tips to take care of your diamond jewellery and keep them pristine.

1. Clean your diamonds at regular intervals

Your diamond jewellery can be washed once or twice a month. The sparkle you see in a diamond is due to the light passing through it. But dirt, oil, sweat etc. can sometimes block this light, due to which your diamonds may appear duller than the new ones; hence you need to clean them. You will just need some mild soap, warm water and a soft toothbrush. Soak your jewellery for a few minutes in soapy water, then clean them gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Dry your jewellery with a lint-free soft cloth and watch the diamonds sparkle. A word of caution – do not use any harsh chemicals or abrasive solutions to clean your diamond jewellery and be careful of cleaning them in the sink as they may slip down the drain. You can also use ammonia and water in a ratio of 1:6 respectively and rinse it well to restore the shine.

2. Protect diamonds from strong fragrances and chemicals

Diamond earrings, bangles and other jewellery must be worn after applying make-up, perfume, hairsprays, lotions etc. as all these products have chemicals, oils or fragrances in them that can decrease the diamonds’ lustre and discolour them. While diamonds, both cut and uncut repel water, do not repel grease and oil. So, bear this in mind while dressing up and getting ready to go out. Also, if you are heading towards the pool for a swim or going to the beach, it is best to keep your diamond jewellery at home. The salts in the water can affect your diamonds too. Also, your ring could slip off your fingers as the skin shrivels in water.

3. Handle them gently

Though diamond is said to be the hardest naturally occurring mineral to be found on earth and is difficult to break, the metal prongs present in your jewellery piece that hold the diamond in its place, can get damaged or be broken. If that happens, your diamond could fall off from the jewellery piece. Hence, it is advised to not put too much pressure on it or scrub it vigorously. Always be gentle while handling your precious diamond jewellery. Sometimes while wearing them, the jewellery gets entangled in your hair or clothes. If that happens, don’t pull and gently disentangle it from your hair or cloth. While removing your diamond ring from your finger, ensure that you handle it from the band, not from the stone or setting so that the diamond remains secure in its place. Also, if you are planning to buy a diamond ring in Nagpur, we have a large variety for you at Londe Jewellers.

4. Store them properly

You must not just be careful while wearing or cleaning your diamond jewellery but also store them properly. When a diamond rubs against metals, other gemstones or another diamond, it could scratch them or damage them in some other way due to its natural hardness. Once diamonds get damaged, they will lose their original lustre which may not be possible to restore. So, it is best to store each of your diamond jewellery pieces individually in a fabric-lined box where they don’t rub against each other. Otherwise, you can wrap each jewellery piece in soft tissue and place them in soft cloth pouches to keep them protected.

5. Periodic professional inspection

When you own diamond jewellery, you must take care of the diamonds as well as the metal settings. Check the metal prongs which are holding the diamonds in their place and ensure that all the metal prongs are of equal length. If they are not, then the diamonds could be dislodged. Make sure that you take that diamond jewellery to a jeweller for a professional inspection. The jeweller can also clean up your jewellery with gadgets like an ultrasonic cleaner. This cleaner vibrates and uses a special cleaning fluid to remove the grime and dirt accumulated on the jewellery, even cleaning the difficult-to-reach crevices of the jewellery. You need to also ensure that the diamond ring you wear is not loose as it can undergo more wear and tear than normal.

Just make sure that you follow the above tips well, and your precious diamond jewellery will look beautiful and good as new for a very long time. We have some exquisite diamond jewellery collections.
