Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Gold and Silver Buying Guide for Nagpur

Updated: 30 July 2026 · By Rajesh Londe, Managing Partner, Londe Jewellers Gold & Diamonds · 3rd generation jeweller

Quick answer. Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 falls on Monday 14 September 2026. In Maharashtra the madhyahna puja muhurat runs 11:16 AM to 1:44 PM, which is the traditional window for the Ganesh sthapana. Ganeshotsav then runs ten days and closes with Anant Chaturdashi and the visarjan on Friday 25 September 2026.

For buying, the useful thing to know is that the gold rate does not fall for a festival. It is set by the bullion benchmark and moves the same way on a muhurat day as on any other. So buy on the day for the occasion, not in the hope of a festival price, and keep the bill checks you would use in a quiet week.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026, the Dates That Matter

These are the dates for the 2026 Ganeshotsav window, on the Maharashtra reckoning. There are 46 days to go as of 30 July 2026.

OccasionDate 2026What usually happens
Ganesh ChaturthiMonday 14 September 2026Ganesh sthapana. Madhyahna puja muhurat 11:16 AM to 1:44 PM
Gauri PujanInside the same ten day windowMarried women wear and gift traditional Maharashtrian pieces. Confirm the exact date on the panchang for your family tradition
Anant ChaturdashiFriday 25 September 2026Visarjan. Close of the ten day Ganeshotsav period

Dates checked against the panchang for Maharashtra. Gauri Pujan is listed without a date on purpose, because the reckoning varies between families and between sources, and a date printed wrongly on a jewellery page is worse than no date at all. Ask your family priest or check your own panchang for that one.

What Nagpur Families Actually Buy for Ganeshotsav

Across our four Nagpur showrooms, the Ganeshotsav window is a small ticket, high volume festival, which is the opposite of the Dhanteras and Diwali window in November. Three purchases repeat every year.

  • Silver coins, bought for the puja itself and for gifting at scale. This is the single highest volume item of the ten days. A meaningful piece sits in the few hundred rupees range, which is why families buy in multiples rather than singly.
  • Small gold coins, most often in the 1 gram to 5 gram range, bought on the muhurat as a token investment rather than as an ornament.
  • Mangalsutra and traditional Maharashtrian pieces ahead of Gauri Pujan. Thushi, kolhapuri saaj and vati mangalsutra move noticeably in this window in Vidarbha, more than they do in any other festival except the wedding season itself.

What does not move much in this window is bridal and heavy wedding gold. In Nagpur that demand waits for Dhanteras on 6 November 2026 and Diwali on 8 November 2026. If you are planning a wedding purchase, Ganeshotsav is a good week to look and a poor week to be served unhurried, because the counters are full of quick coin buyers.

Gold Coin Prices in Nagpur for Ganesh Chaturthi

A gold coin bill has three parts and only one of them varies between jewellers. The metal value is the live 24K rate multiplied by the coin weight. GST is a flat 3 percent on the total invoice value. The minting charge is the variable part, quoted per coin, and it is the line to ask for before you pay.

Metal value at today's Nagpur 24K counter rate of Rs 14,270 per gram (30 July 2026):

Coin weightMetal value at Rs 14,270/gGST at 3%Metal value all in
1 gram 24K coinRs 14,270Rs 428Rs 14,698
2 gram 24K coinRs 28,540Rs 856Rs 29,396
5 gram 24K coinRs 71,350Rs 2,141Rs 73,491
10 gram 24K coinRs 1,42,700Rs 4,281Rs 1,46,981

Minting charge is additional and is quoted per coin at the counter. It is excluded from this table deliberately rather than estimated, because a made up figure on a price page is worse than an honest gap. Londe gold coins are BIS hallmarked at 995 fineness. The rate above is the same rate used to credit old gold on exchange, and it updates on this page automatically with the daily counter rate.

For reference, 22K jewellery gold is at Rs 13,240 per gram today. Coins are bought in 24K rather than 22K because a coin is held for metal value and not worn, so there is no reason to accept the lower fineness. The live figures are on the today gold rate in Nagpur page.

Silver Coins for the Puja

Silver coins are the Ganeshotsav staple, and the two things worth confirming are the fineness and the weight. Londe silver coins are 995 fine silver, which is the standard investment grade fineness, and they are sold by weight with the weight stated on the bill.

Silver moves faster than gold in percentage terms, so a silver coin price is quoted at the counter on the day rather than published in advance. Ask for three things when you buy: the weight in grams, the fineness, and whether the price you are quoted is inclusive of GST or before it. Those three lines make two quotes from two jewellers genuinely comparable, which a single blended figure never does.

If you are buying in volume for gifting, say so at the counter before the billing starts rather than after, because bulk requirements are handled differently from a single piece and it is far easier to set up at the start.

Silver coins are commonly sold in 5 gram, 10 gram, 20 gram and 50 gram weights, and for Ganeshotsav gifting the 5 gram and 10 gram pieces move in the largest numbers because families buy them in multiples rather than singly. All four Londe Jewellers Gold & Diamonds showrooms in Nagpur stock 995 fine silver coins through the ten days and are open every day 11 AM to 8:30 PM: Sitabuldi (090755 12053), Gokulpeth (084460 90383), Manish Nagar (080101 48427) and Nandanvan (089564 82471).

The Bill Checks That Get Skipped in a Festival Rush

Festival weeks are when counters are busiest and when buyers are most likely to accept a bill without reading it. These five checks take under two minutes and apply at any jeweller, anywhere, not only in Nagpur.

CheckWhat to look for
1. Rate on the billThe per gram rate printed, not just the total. Match it to the rate board
2. Weight printedNet weight in grams for every item, weighed in front of you
3. Making or minting as its own lineShown separately from metal value, never blended into one figure
4. No separate wastage lineA bill carrying both making and wastage is charging twice for one process
5. GST shownA flat 3 percent on the total invoice value, printed as its own line

At Londe Jewellers Gold & Diamonds there is no separate wastage line on any bill, GST is a flat 3 percent on the total invoice value, and the per gram rate is printed on every invoice. The full walkthrough is in the gold bill verification checklist for Nagpur.

Exchanging Old Gold Before the Festival

Exchange terms do not change for a festival, and the Ganeshotsav window is a common time to convert an unworn old piece into something that gets used. At Londe Jewellers, old 22K and 24K gold from any jeweller in India is exchanged at zero deduction, valued at the same rate we sell at, with XRF purity testing done in front of you in five to ten minutes.

One practical note for the ten days. Counters are busiest between 6 PM and closing, so an exchange that takes fifteen minutes in the first hour after opening at 11 AM can take considerably longer in the evening. Details on the gold exchange in Nagpur page.
